On day 16 of #TransLoveNov, I send my love to my brother Kai. Dr. Kai M. Green entered my life and agreed to sit on my dissertation committee, but his role in my life exponentially grew after that. Kai is someone that embodies what it means to operationalize love in accountability and another person that holds space for complexity in others. He is also the kind of scholactivist I can only aspire to be one day, the kind of instructor that pushes you to/through your intellectual limit, invested in Black liberation through Black Youth Project 100 and every space he's in, a cultural producer, writes for several online platforms (e.g., Feminist Wire, Everyday Feminism), and is unapologetically free.

The third week of #TransLoveNov is dedicated to my kin, so these are just as much personal, as they are activist or artistic, etc. For the first day I send my love to my housemate and partner-in-transing-scholarship, Dr. Z Nicolazzo. Z is one of those special people that doesn't let you fall through the cracks, deeply loving and caring, and holds a lot of room for complexity in others. Hir book Trans* in College: Transgenders Students' Strategies for Navigating Campus Life and Institutional Politics of Inclusion is coming out hella soon.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On the end of the week of cultural producers, I send love to Dr. micha cárdenas. An Assistant Professor of Interactive Media Design and Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington's Bothell campus, micha studies the movement (migration, performance and mobility) of trans people of color in digital media. Inspired by a speech by Patrisse Cullors at the Allied Media Conference, the two of them are collaborating, along with Edxie Betts and Chris Head on UNSTOPPABLE, to produce materials and processes for DYI bulletproof clothing at low or no cost.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 13, I send my love to J Mase III. J Mase III is a poet and educator, who formed the AwQward Talent Agency, the first trans and queer people of color talent agency. J Mase's workshops include working towards racial justice, multi-faith and interfaith work, and anti-oppressive masculinity.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 12 I send my love to Reina Gossett. An activist fellow at Barnard College's Center for Research on Women, Reina has put in quite the miles in the activism realm and now also using her knowledge and research for film making. Her latest body of work is Happy Birthday, Marsha!, a film about iconic trans artist and activist, Marsha "Pay it no mind" Johnson, who was at the 1969 Stonewall Riots. She also happens to be sibs with another brilliant trans scholar, Che Gossett.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 11, I send my love to Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi. Lady Dane is a performance artist, actor, dancer, singer, and writer. She has quite the list of publications to her name, and constantly working on the next one, bringing in more and more trans women of color into existence through her stories and poetry. Lady Dane was also a host of Inside Out LGBT Radio on WPFW, so check out some of their archived shows from Tuesday afternoons. If you're headed to Race Forward in Atlanta this year, she'll be there, so bask in her Priestessness.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 10, my love goes out to Micah Bazant, an artist who uses their tools and skills to fight like hell for the living and for the dead. You've probably seen Micah's art and not even known who the artist is, from a lot of the work in the Trans Life & Liberation Series to protest signs made to honor the too-many Black trans women murdered each year. Micah's art is often either free or used to fundraise for organizations. An example the poster for Trans Day of Resilience supporting the Audre Lorde Project.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 9 of #TransLoveNov, I send love to Kay Ulanday Barrett. Kay is an artist who weaves activism and advocacy into every breath and word. Kay is also knows for dapperness, bringing crip politics into the room, and a deep love of snacks. Check out Kay's page for upcoming readings and performances.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov The second week of #TransLoveNov goes to the cultural producers. Although, it would be just as easy to include trans and gender nonconforming cultural producers in the activist week because our art is resistance. Micky Bradford is the perfect example of that and my love on day 8 goes out to her. An organizer with Transgender Law Center, Micky famously vogued to "dance away my anger, frustration, and sadness" in front of police stationed outside of North Carolina governor McCrory's house.
With love and in solidarity #TransLoveNov On day 7, I send my love to Raquel Willis, a brilliant writer who gives her day time to the Transgender Law Center. She is one of my favorite people on Twitter to follow, and one of the newest hosts of the Black Girl Dangerous Podcast. I can't wait for her book to come out!
