I bring over 15 years of experience facilitating trainings and consulting with and for a variety of constituents on college campuses, as well as for community organizations and members.  A lifelong learner, I have pursued multiple opportunities to hone in on and further develop my skills, including attending Training of Trainers with ProGroup, Inc., ("Leveraging the Power of Difference"), GLSEN, and the Brown Boi Project, interning and facilitating with the Social Justice Training Institute, and participating in the Movement Strategy Center's Transitions Lab. From broad-based diversity and multicultural trainings, to infusing social justice in leadership development and practice, and focused consulting on trans*forming organizations, I deliver critical work informed by scholarship, lived experiences, and deep community connections and relationships.

T.J. Jourian is a highly skilled facilitator whose attention to participant learning, group dynamics, and learning outcomes makes him incredibly effective working with groups. T.J. mixes transparency, humor, and challenge to bring individuals and groups to greater levels of competence with issues of equity and justice.

Colleges and Universities

I have worked with departments (e.g. residential life, student life, career services, diversity & equity), schools (e.g. education, nursing, medical, social work, gender & sexuality studies), and constituents (student leaders, pre-service teachers, staff, administrators, and faculty), at countless institutions, such as the University of Vermont, Vanderbilt University, Agnes Scott College, West Virginia University, Denison University, Louisiana State University, Eastern Washington University, the University of California Santa Cruz, Mount Holyoke College, Northwestern University, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

For student leader training, long-term change initiatives with your division, faculty development, and more, connect with me to discuss particular needs, goals, and dates.

Community

I have worked with the Brown Boi Project, Creating Change, 9to5.org, and the National Lawyers Guild to build with communities and organizations working in gender justice, racial justice, queer justice, trans justice, and/or class justice movements.

I have been privileged to be able to do this both independently and as part of a variety of teams of talented trainers and consultants.

Contact me to talk about how I can contribute to elevating your organization's capacity for equity.

T.J. was an awesome speaker and very easy to work with. His charisma and knowledge helped to break down barriers and create an atmosphere of respect around LGBTQI topics.

- Sharese Shannon Mathis, Director, Diversity and Inclusion, Siena Heights University

Thoughtful, Powerful, Clear and Compassionate - these are the adjectives that I would use to describe my time with Dr. Jourian as a trainer, facilitator, and coach.

- Rev. Dr. Jamie Washington, President, Washington Consulting Group; Co-founder, Social Justice Training Institute

About that asterisk: This website uses the asterisk (*) as a linguistic disruption of sorts that shifts the meaning of words to intentionally reference from a trans perspective (e.g., trans*form). In most cases, it is not used after the word "trans" as is becoming common in many spaces (see this article for an explanation of the etymology and meaning of trans*), except when directly cited or is part of an already published piece.  This is to honor the ongoing discussions and tensions amongst trans communities regarding the use/misuse of the asterisk. See, the following three articles to learn about some of these discussions and tensions: by Julia Serano, by the Trans Student Educational Resources, and by Practical Androgyny.
